Just before midnight on Wednesday, May 16, Seth Adams called his brother, David Adams, from outside their home in a rural town along Florida’s Atlantic Coast.
“I’ve been shot!” Seth shouted, staggering from a parking lot toward their Loxahatchee Groves home, his chest riddled with bullets. “I’ve been shot by cop!”
( He expresses the wrong that has happened, he is in disbelief)
Seth Adams collapsed. His brother ran to help.
Seth, who nine months ago moved back to Southeast Florida after nearly five years in Albany, was taken by helicopter to a hospital. At 1:58 the next morning, he was pronounced dead. He was 24.
Adams was killed by Sgt. Michael Custer, a 14-year veteran of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. Adams was not armed or in reach of any weapons when he died.
Adams’ death has dominated the news in the West Palm Beach area since, with his grieving family and an outraged community questioning both the events that precipitated the shooting and what happened in the minutes after.
“Every night, I have nightmares about my brother being shot,” David Adams told the Times Union Monday. “And every day I wake up and realize it’s real.”
Seth Adams moved to Albany five years ago with friends. For 4½ years, he lived on Lark Street and worked as a chef at the Crowne Plaza, now the Hotel Albany. A hotel spokesman said employees and friends recently rented out a conference room for a memorial service for Adams, who he said was very well liked. His brother moved back to Florida in part to escape New York’s cold winters, David Adams said.
The sheriff’s office maintains Custer believed Seth Adams had put his life in danger. Teri Barbera, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, told the Times Union the events of May 16 unfolded like this:
Custer was working an undercover(Of WHAT) detail, staked out in the parking lot of the Adams family business, A One Stop Garden Shop. Seth, David and his wife live in a house that adjoins the nursery. When Seth Adams came home just after 11:30 p.m., he pulled into the lot, rolled down his window and asked Custer what he was doing there. Custer, who was not in uniform but wearing a black tactical unit T-shirt, flashed a badge and identified himself as law enforcement, but Adams argued with him, Barbera said.
( The clear message we will kill you if you fail to cower to our demands, We are above the law)
Both men got out of their cars. The confrontation turned physical, Barbera said, as Adams lunged at Custer, trying to choke him. Custer pulled his gun, told Adams he was under arrest and to get to the ground. But Adams ran back to his truck, opened the driver’s side door and reached for something, Barbera said. Custer kicked at the door, trapping it against Adams’ arm. Adams turned to Custer and moved toward him, Barbera said. That’s when Custer fired.(
Cover-up)
The sheriff’s(COVER UP) office won’t say(COVER UP) how many times Adams was hit. David Adams said his brother was struck by four bullets: two in the chest, another that pierced his abdomen and one that ripped through his rib cage. There were no weapons in Seth Adams’ truck. The family’s lawyer, Robert Saylor, said Adams may have been reaching for his driver’s license.
The sheriff’s(COVER UP) office would not comment(Cover-up) in detail on what happened after the shooting,(COVER UP) other than saying that Custer immediately called for backup(COVER UP) and medical( A BALD FACED LIE) attention. David Adams said his brother lumbered and crawled some 300 feet toward their home. He was on the ground by the time his brother reached him.
“I was in shock,” David Adams said. “I knelt down to the ground. I saw the blood. Seth was still talking with my wife, screaming ‘I’ve been shot! I’ve been shot!’”
David Adams said a swarm of deputies confronted him when he ran to get help.
( DO YOU believe this kind of bull shit! The police INTIMIDATING the victims , the survivors of the murder, COMMITTED BY THERE BROTHER OFFICER. This is not the actions of a government “of the people fore the people” NOR “by the people”! Where the FUCK has my country gone.)
“Get on the ground, get on the ground!” Adams said the deputies shouted, drawing their rifles on him. “Are there any weapons on the premises?”
( You have GOT to be kidding me: yes there are and they are trained on innocent citicens who ” work hard and pay taxes”. these were law abiding people, the one you are sworn in to protect and serve, by ALL ACCOUNTS)
“No!” Adams said he told them as he dropped to the dirt. “My brother is lying there, bleeding. He’s been shot! Somebody help him!”( CLEARLY INTIMIDATION TACTICS)
Medics eventually arrived and flew Seth Adams to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, where he died hours later.
The shooting(COVER UP) and the aftermath(COVER UP) were not captured on(COVER UP) camera.(COVER UP) Custer did not have any audio recording devices on him(COVER UP) and his unmarked (COVER UP)patrol car was not equipped(COVER UP) with a video camera. A sign in the (COVER UP)nursery’s parking lot warns that cameras are in use, but they were not working at the time of the (COVER UP)shooting, Barbera said.
Custer(COVER UP) has been on paid administrative(COVER UP) leave (COVER UP)since the shooting. The sheriff’s(COVER UP) office has not detailed the nature of the(COVER UP) undercover assignment. (COVER UP)( because there never was one)
Seth Adams’ family maintains that he was non-confrontational and would have not defied Custer’s orders or tried to choke him.(A made up excuse on the part of the officer)
“If the sergeant told him to lay down, he would have laid down,” David Adams said. “We lived our whole lives being good stewards. Seth was the type of person you’d want to protect.”
Adams also questioned why Custer did not try to help his brother after he was shot and said emergency medical crews took nearly 20 minutes(COVER UP) to reach the scene because of the bevy(COVER UP) of police cruisers. Adams’ family also believes Custer did not need to resort to deadly force.
( He did it as a vendetta agents anyone who would not instantly cower to the authority of his badge and he was up to his neck in some sort of criminal activity of his own.)
“My brother is 175 pounds. Why did he need to shoot him?” David Adams said.
Barbera stressed that the parking lot where Adams was shot is dark at night and added that the sheriff’s office does not think Adams made it 300 feet before collapsing.
Though the sheriff’s office and the district attorney are still investigating the case, there has been a powerful public outcry for an independent investigation, including online petitions with thousands of signatures. On Friday, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw invited the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the state’s highest-ranking law enforcement office, to launch an independent investigation.
( The latter of the law has no top and no bottom Custer)
“This is the first time the sheriff has invited the FDLE to investigate a case like this,” Barbera said. “He’s listening to the community and he doesn’t want them to have the concerns that they do now. We all realize this is a tragedy. We all want answers.”
”( Bury a rag deep in your face. Now IS the time for your tears!)”
